Flag ratio: 1:2

The flag of Norfolk Island was adopted on January 17, 1980. It depicts the Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla).

The flag's geometry is a Triband. It is similar to the flag of Canada, with its use of only two colours and the use of a prominent local floral symbol in the middle. It also has 1:2 size ratio. Though the central stripe is not a Canadian pale in the stricter sense of the term, in that it does not cover half of the flag's length, it is sometimes considered so in a looser sense, as it is wider than the two outer stripes (they have the ratio of 7:9:7).
