Genomic deoxyribonucleic acid is often abbreviated as gDNA.¹ The genome of an organism (encoded by gDNA) is the biological information of heredity which is passed from one generation of organism to the next. That genome is transcribed² to produce RNAs, which are necessary for the function of the organism. Some RNA is processed by splicing³ to remove introns, leaving the exons in the mature messenger RNA (mRNA). The mature mRNA may then be translated by the ribosome into protein.
