A myocyte (also known as a myocardial cell) is the type of cell found in heart muscles. Each myocardial cell contains myofibrils, which are long chains of sarcomeres, the contractile units of the cell. Myocytes show similar patterns to skeletal muscle cells, but unlike multinucleated skeletal cells, myocytes contain only one or two nuclei.
