Oxidative decarboxylation reactions are oxidation reactions in which a carboxylate group is removed, forming carbon dioxide. They often occur in biological systems: pyruvate decarboxylation is an oxidative decarboxylation reaction, and there are many other examples in the citric acid cycle.
