Thermal motion is the random motion of molecules or other small objects that results from their being in thermal equilibrium at a particular temperature. In general, thermal motions are faster at higher temperatures, and for lower-mass particles. For many systems, the precise relation between thermal motion and temperature is given by the equipartition theorem.

Brownian motion is an example of thermal motion.
